<h4>Introduction to the use of data on the GBIF Data Portal</h4>
<p>The graphical user interface for GBIF-mediated data is the <a href="http://data.gbif.org/welcome.htm" target="_new">Data Portal</a>.

<p>The <a href="http://data.gbif.org/" target="_blank" title="Opens external link in new window">GBIF Data Portal</a>
is proof of the concept that a worldwide distributed network of
biodiversity data providers can be linked together and made searchable
from a single point of access.</p>
<p>The portal includes a general <a href="http://data.gbif.org/tutorial/tutorial" target="_new">introduction and online tutorial</a>.
If you are a first-time visitor, you may want to let it guide you
through a few examples. This tutorial can be accessed from the ’About’
link on any of the portal pages.</p>
<p>The Data Portal allows complex searches on any taxon, country or
dataset, or on a combination of these parameters. The existing Portal is

<p>The GBIF portal offers a range of services to support the use of
biodiversity data in other applications and analyses, and additional
services and tools are being added as the portal evolves.
