This meeting will be organized as part of EDIT WP 3.4 DNA barcoding. Its aim is to integrate DNA barcoding efforts in <st1:place w:st="on">Europe</st1:place> and thus enhance the chances of funding for common projects. Present plans include invited lectures introducing discussion subjects with special reference to integrating and streamlining European barcoding activities, discussing training and research opportunities and potential applications. Discussion groups should continue after the conference as working groups. There will also be sessions for contributed presentations and posters. Non-EDIT members will also be very welcome! The Consortium for the Barcode of Life is an international initiative devoted to developing DNA barcoding as a global standard in taxonomy.  CBOL has more than 130 <A href="http://barcoding.si.edu/CBOLMembers_details.htm">Member Organizations</A> from 43 countries. The Canadian Centre for DNA Barcoding (CCDB) is dedicated to the use of DNA barcoding for both the identification and discovery of species. Based at the Biodiversity Institute of Ontario at the University of Guelph, the CCDB is a member of the international barcoding effort coordinated by the Consortium for the Barcode of Life (CBOL). The CCDB plays a special role in leading Canadian contributions to this initiative, with an emphasis on the development of both high-throughput laboratory protocols, and the Barcode of Life Data (BOLD) Systems - an online workbench and database for the global barcoding community.
