About barcoding

DNA barcoding is a DNA-based technique with wide-ranging practical and scientific implications, which promises to revolutionize the way we identify species.

DNA barcodes will make it possible quickly to

monitor the spread of human disease vectors;
monitor the spread of agricultural pests and invasive species;
identify alien foodstuff;
recognise and monitor detrimental biological bacteria and viruses etc. spread on purpose in the environment (biosecurity);
recognise damaged species/fragments of species e.g. in forensics;
link life history stages and genders;
differentiating cryptic species;
identifying gut contents and droppings, thereby help unravel the structure of food webs;
flag potentially unknown species;
create a novel link to other types of biodiversity informatics data.

Participants

The conference is open to all. Anyone with interest in biodiversity, barcoding, taxonomy and related subjects is welcome to sign up for conference participation via the online registration and payment form. Apart from the invited national and international guest speakers, we expect participation from the DanBIF network members, their internal research associates including students, DanBIF associates, researchers and members of international biodiversity related scientific fora, etc.
