BioNET has launched a further IYB 2010 campaign to promote the relevance of taxonomy: "Taxonomy in Action".
"Taxonomy in Action" is a showcase of species images accompanied by short key messages on the practice, benefits and uses of taxonomy. We aim to make it very simple and easy for contributors to submit case studies, limiting the required text and providing a template for submission (please click here for a template and examples - 1.4Mb).
The initial call was made on 22 May International Biodiversity Day for
• high quality images of species,
• matching text (1-3 sentences in English) giving details on this species, e.g. explaining where it was discovered, by who, when, what is special about this species, whether it is endangered, etc, and
• 1-2 sentences in English how taxonomy helped to discover, identify or protect the species and what impact this had on society.
We plan to compile the images and stories and create various types of promotional material highlighting the importance of taxonomy, e.g. posters, post cards, booklets, presentations, and more. We hope to recieve sufficient contributions by 27 August to design products for launch at COP10 in October 2010, Japan. We would be very happy if you would consider contributing to this campaign.
