Communication from the European Commission on Biodiversity

The European Commission has officially released a new document to set out policy recommendations on biodiversity. In this communication, the Commission delineates a long-term vision for the protection of biodiversity in the European area, in response to the failure of the previous goal of halting the loss of biodiversity in Europe by 2010. Knowledge and data gaps on biodiversity remain identified as one of the main obstacles to the protection of biodiversity, making the resolution of the taxonomic impediment more important than ever.
